Playa Hotels & Resorts, an operator of 22 luxury all‑inclusive resorts across Mexico, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic with over 8,000 associates, needed to modernize financial reporting and controls as it transitioned from private to public. The company faced complex, multi‑jurisdictional SEC reporting and first‑time SOX compliance challenges that outgrew spreadsheets and required better collaboration, governance, and version control across property, shared service and corporate teams.

Playa implemented the Workiva cloud platform with PwC’s support to establish a “three lines of defense,” centralize filings and supporting documents, and automate certifications and reviews. The solution created a single source of truth, improved alignment with internal and external auditors, sped the close from 10 days to 4, and made onboarding and upskilling easier — with plans to fold internal control self‑assessments into the platform next.
