Unum, a Fortune 500 provider of financial protection benefits founded in 1848, helps individuals and families cope with loss and the inability to work across the US, UK, and Poland. The company was hampered by a complex, largely on‑premise ecosystem of 39 HR and finance applications that produced fragmented data, limited user access, and slow capabilities for finance and HR teams.

Unum moved to Workday’s cloud suite (including Financial Management, HCM, Prism Analytics, Payroll, Absence Management and more), automated absence management, and built HR Connect to deliver services to 110+ mutual customers. The rollout cut systems from 39 to 17, accelerated year‑end close from three days to one hour, and delivered major savings and efficiencies: $200K net annual cost savings, $1.7M annual head‑count savings, $2.5M annual maverick‑spend reduction, $1.4M upgrade cost avoidance, 85% adoption of performance tools, and a 50% reduction in time to hire.
