University of Virginia builds a shared service model on a unified HR system

The University of Virginia (UVA) needed to simplify a complex HR environment that relied on three HR systems, 212 supporting apps, and multiple security models, which created inefficiencies, limited real-time insights, and increased risk. UVA partnered with Workday, using its Human Capital Management and related HR tools to create a more unified and modern HR experience for its academic schools, Health System, and Physicians Group.

With Workday, UVA consolidated its HR operations into one system with real-time data, a single security model, mobile access, and automated workflows. The results included 68 fewer ancillary apps, 95% improved payroll accuracy, a 36% increase in strategic work, and a reduction in time to fill positions from 90 days to 57 days, while also improving security and reducing IT complexity.
