University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) is a longtime leader in adult and distance education, serving undergraduate and graduate students online and on U.S. military installations in more than 20 countries. Faced with cumbersome hiring processes, heavy IT dependence for cost-center reporting, no mobile access, costly and slow policy changes from a highly customized system, and disconnected global operations causing cross‑functional bottlenecks, UMGC needed a more agile, unified solution.

UMGC implemented a suite of Workday products—Financial Management, Human Capital Management, Payroll, Time Tracking, Recruiting, Expenses, and Procurement—streamlining and automating hiring and reporting, enabling mobile time-off and expense submissions, and reducing the number of reports required for cost‑center visibility. The configurable, single system reduced IT reliance, empowered nontechnical staff to make policy changes, and delivered consistent global processes and improved operational efficiency.
