Flinders University, a leading research university in Adelaide with about 6,600 staff and 27,500 students across 82 locations, faced fragmented legacy HR and payroll systems, numerous manual processes, poor workforce visibility and data integrity issues that left managers tied up in administration. Urgently needing a cloud-first solution, the university selected Workday during COVID-19 after sandbox testing and for its true SaaS architecture and strong customer-focus.

Deploying Workday HCM (with Recruiting and Time Tracking) replaced disparate systems, automated and streamlined processes—eliminating 25 forms, decommissioning 14 payroll-related apps, and reducing 90 of 93 processes to two clicks—while providing a single source of workforce data and built-in reporting. The change delivered significant operational efficiencies, shifted HR from transactional work to a strategic advisory role, and generated broad staff enthusiasm for further digital transformation.
