A Workday Adaptive Planning Case Study
Trustpower, a New Zealand energy and telecoms retailer with 250,000 customers and 47 power stations, faced an aging on‑premise accounting system that was hard to upgrade, heavily customized, and offered little self‑service. Leadership wanted to move to software‑as‑a‑service to standardize procurement, give non‑finance staff direct access to commercial data, and free the finance team to act as proactive business partners rather than data gatekeepers.
Trustpower implemented Workday Financial Management, Planning, Procure‑to‑Pay and Expenses to deliver integrated, automated finance reporting, standardized procurement controls and self‑service “slice and dice” analytics. The result: faster, mobile approvals and a virtual year‑end close during COVID that still produced a full annual report on schedule, reduced reliance on finance for routine data, and left the team able to adapt quickly to major changes such as divestments.
