MSD, the global biopharmaceutical leader known as Merck & Co., needed better visibility into the skills and career paths of its 72,000 employees across 93 countries. Using Workday Adaptive Planning alongside Workday Human Capital Management, MSD aimed to improve HR insight, identify internal talent faster, and create more personalized opportunities for its workforce while reducing reliance on external hiring.
MSD implemented Workday Human Capital Management and related capabilities to automate recruiting, compensation, and talent workflows, while using Skills Cloud and other tools to infer and standardize skills across more than 5,000 roles. With Workday Adaptive Planning supporting its talent strategy, MSD improved global skills and resource management, expanded career opportunities, and increased retention and employee experience; the company has also supported up to 900 active gigs to help match people to short-term and long-term opportunities.
