VMware, a global technology company with 37,000+ employees, needed to shift from a product- and silo-driven model to a customer-outcome, consumption-first SaaS mindset. Leadership faced the challenge of aligning thousands of people and functions around a common vision, exposing blind spots, and reducing many competing priorities down to the critical few that drive transformation.
To address this, VMware—sponsored by the CEO—scaled WorkBoard across the organization (customer since 2020), rolled out OKRs and a digital operating rhythm, trained 200+ OKR coaches and activated ~700 senior directors through cross-functional workstreams and cascading strategy memos. The initiative established a single alignment language, created radical clarity and shared urgency, revealed and resolved misalignments, and accelerated collaboration and measurable progress toward customer-focused outcomes.
