A Workast Case Study

These Game Makers Don’t Play Games When it Comes to Project Management In Comes Workast

MIT’s Comparative Media Studies and Writing research lab needed a simple way to manage the ongoing development of a VR educational game, despite frequent student turnover and short semester-based deadlines. Philip Tan’s team wanted a project management tool that worked with Slack, was affordable, and was easier to use than Jira or FogBugz, which were better for bug tracking than for coordinating a long-term, multi-person project.

MIT implemented Workast as their central project management and communication hub. With Workast, the team organized features into lists, prioritized work in Board view, tracked bugs and new requests through Slack, and used daily stand-ups and task comments to improve coordination and planning. The result was a searchable repository of project history that helped each new group of students pick up where the previous team left off, while also improving prioritization, communication, and individual time estimation across the project.
