Sanrio, the global lifestyle brand behind Hello Kitty, Gudetama and other characters, needed to shift its ecommerce experience from a product-first approach to a content-first, fan-focused site to better engage a worldwide audience. A longtime Workarea merchant, Sanrio engaged Workarea to redesign the site and prioritize “supercute” branded content over standard product promotion.
Workarea implemented custom content blocks to showcase characters, a video management tool, and a community blog called "Sweet Happy News," plus a dedicated Shop tab, customer-driven product reviews, streamlined secure checkout, and enhanced site-wide search. The Workarea solution made it easy for Sanrio’s small ecommerce team to manage a content-driven experience while improving discoverability and shopping; Sanrio today offers more than 50,000 Hello Kitty–branded items in 130+ countries and in over 15,000 U.S. retail locations, supporting a larger, loyal global fan base.
