Case Study: Net Zero Teesside advances UK’s first zero-carbon industrial cluster with Wood’s carbon capture design

A Wood Case Study

Preview of the Net Zero Teesside Case Study

Wood is working with the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative Climate Investments (OGCI CI) on a first-of-its-kind project to reduce CO2 emissions in the North east of England

Wood worked with Net Zero Teesside, an initiative to create the UK's first zero-carbon industrial cluster, on the challenge of significantly reducing industrial CO2 emissions in the Teesside area, which accounted for almost 6% of the UK's industrial emissions.

Wood developed the pre-FEED for a new 750MW gas-fired power station with carbon capture, which served as the anchor project for the cluster. The solution was designed to capture over 90% of emissions, sequestering 2 million tonnes of CO2 per year. The overall Net Zero Teesside project is projected to capture 6 million tonnes of CO2 annually by 2030, support 5,500 direct jobs by 2035, and establish the region as a leader in industrial decarbonization.
