Wood develops first of a kind method and saves power client millions

The large power utility company in Florida faced a costly and time-consuming challenge in replacing the LP economizer and evaporative sections on its 14 heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs). The traditional method required massive 800-ton cranes and involved difficult access from above the HRSG, leading to long downtime and high expenses for the client and its ratepayers.

Wood developed a first-of-its-kind horizontal trolley rigging system that allowed access from the side of the HRSG. This innovative solution designed and implemented by Wood drastically reduced the required crane capacity to 500 tons and cut the total unit downtime by over 50%. The project resulted in an estimated total savings of $14 million for the client, a substantial benefit that was passed on to its customers.
