Case Study: Nova Innovation achieves 17% tidal energy cost savings with Wood’s AI solution

A Wood Case Study

Preview of the Nova Innovation Case Study

Playing a leading role in making tidal energy part of the global energy transition

Nova Innovation, a tidal energy company, collaborated with Wood and a consortium of other organizations on the challenge of improving tidal turbine performance and reducing costs to accelerate the sector's commercialization. Their goal was to make tidal energy a more viable part of the global energy transition.

The solution implemented by Wood involved incorporating state-of-the-art artificial intelligence from the wind energy sector into an adaptive control system for tidal turbines. This ELEMENT project, demonstrated on turbines in France and Scotland, is expected to deliver a 17% cost saving on the levelised cost of tidal energy.
