Kuwait Integrated Petroleum Industries Company - Customer Case Study

The Kuwait Integrated Petroleum Industries Company (KIPIC) sought to construct the world's largest single-phase refinery, Al-Zour, as part of Kuwait's national development plan. The challenge was to manage this enormous, environmentally-driven greenfield project, which required processing 615,000 barrels per day and producing ultra-low sulphur fuels. Vendor Wood was selected to provide comprehensive project management consultancy (PMC) services.

Wood delivered a multi-disciplinary global team to manage the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) phases, coordinating between all contractors and ensuring adherence to schedule and budget. The solution, which leveraged Wood's global expertise and proprietary data management tools, successfully resulted in a refinery that produces 225,000 bpd of low sulphur fuel oil for domestic power and 340,000 bpd of clean fuels for export. Wood's management was instrumental in achieving this project, which allows for significant reductions in SOx emissions.
