Enabling market expansion for WACKER

Wacker Chemical Company, a major chemical manufacturer, sought to expand its market position and supply capacity in the U.S. for its HDK® fumed silica product. To meet this challenge, Wacker engaged Wood to provide front-end engineering and design (FEED) and full engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCm) services for a new $150 million plant.

Wood designed and constructed the new facility at Wacker's site in Charleston, Tennessee, integrating vendor packages and acting as the general contractor. Despite an unforeseen incident that shut down Wacker's other production, Wood managed the response and delivered the project 15% under budget. The new plant produces the most sustainable pyrogenic silica available and achieved on-spec product in its first run, successfully enabling Wacker's market expansion.
