Cutting methane emissions on platform with new technology

The customer, Energy Corporation, faced the challenge of accurately detecting and quantifying methane leaks on a mature offshore platform in Newfoundland, Canada, to reduce emissions and comply with environmental regulations. Wood deployed its Iris Edge technology to address this challenge with highly precise methane detection.

Wood's solution utilized the Iris Edge system, which employs tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy to provide the world's most accurate 3D location and quantification of methane leaks. During a seven-day pilot, the technology identified a previously undetected leak, enabling repair within 24 hours. This capability helps Energy Corporation avoid significant methane taxation, potentially saving millions of dollars, while also substantially reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
