A Wood Case Study
The customer, Humber Zero, is a major decarbonisation project aiming to accelerate the UK's industrial transition to net zero by 2050. The challenge was to develop a plan to capture carbon emissions from a cluster of three existing power and petrochemical plants in Immingham, a critical industrial hub, while preserving jobs and economic activity. The vendor, Wood, was engaged to develop the master plan and early design for this program.
Wood utilized its decarbonisation roadmap process (SCORE) to create a comprehensive solution involving multiple technologies, including carbon capture and the production of both blue and green hydrogen. The solution provided clarity on scope, schedule, and economics, which aided in securing government funding. The measurable impact of this plan is the future capture of up to 8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year, representing a significant portion of the UK's industrial decarbonisation strategy.
