Utique is an online marketplace that curates and sells products from South African designers and small businesses. kri8it built the site on a modified Canvas Commerce theme with WooCommerce, and faced a key challenge: how to calculate and present shipping costs when orders can include items from multiple suppliers located across the country.

The team solved this by treating each supplier as a “Store Manager” author, automatically creating WooCommerce Shipping Classes for each supplier and using the Table Rate plugin with two shipping zones (Postal and Courier) to set supplier-specific rates. They grouped shipping by class to calculate order totals, then used jQuery/AJAX to display a per-supplier shipping breakdown on checkout; they also added a front-end products-per-page plugin. The result was a clean, highly functional store with accurate multi-supplier shipping and faster development thanks to the Canvas framework.
