The LAB Antimall - Customer Case Study

Domestic Equity Studio (Art Director Greg Douglas) redesigned the online presence for The LAB, an eclectic outdoor “anti-mall” in Costa Mesa, CA. The client wanted a handmade, garage‑style look that broke the usual grid and avoided a corporate feel, while also providing tighter social media integration and a backend the team could update easily in‑house.

The studio built the site on WordPress using the Buro theme and extensive custom CSS—layered PNG backgrounds, custom graphical navigation rollovers, and styled NextGEN galleries—to achieve a unique, non‑template appearance. The final site (thelab.com) delivers a fully editable CMS with events/blog pages, custom shop pages and integrated Twitter/Flickr feeds, giving The LAB a visually distinct, maintainable site that matches its offbeat brand.
