A WooCommerce Case Study
Absolute Antibody, founded in 2012 in Oxford, develops therapeutic‑grade antibodies for research and diagnostics and maintains an extremely complex catalog — over 4,500 products grouped under 800+ clones with up to 15 variations each (around 50,000 SKUs). Electric Studio was engaged to improve the customer experience, remove repeated information and build a reliable way to sync that large catalog into a new WooCommerce‑based site; the existing sync process was slow and incompatible with the WooCommerce REST API.
The team implemented WooCommerce grouped and variable products, ElasticSearch (via ElasticPress) for faster search and navigation, and AJAX‑driven product pages to present clone/variation details without repetition. They rebuilt the sync tool in Laravel using DreamFactory to access the Azure SQL data and the WooCommerce API, added an images API, and introduced an intermediate database to enable incremental updates — full syncs dropped from 8–12 hours to 4–6 hours and incremental syncs can run in as little as 20 minutes, keeping the site up to date and scalable.
