How a Former Olympic Athlete Made His Fitness App Dream a Reality

Your Fitness App (YFA) was created by former Team GB discus thrower Glen Smith to fill a gap in the crowded fitness market: simple, Olympian-designed workouts and meal plans people can follow anytime, anywhere without gym contracts. Based in Stratford-upon-Avon, Glen needed a mobile-first product that made content easy to access, supported paid subscriptions, and handled program scheduling and user accounts — all while standing out in a competitive landscape.

Working with web agency 5874, YFA was built on WooCommerce for its open-source flexibility and API integration: free app users see ads while premium access is managed via WooCommerce Subscriptions, and WC Fields Factory enables program start-date scheduling. After six months of development a beta launched in May 2017; ongoing testing plus a content-led marketing strategy (blogging, Facebook pixel and micro-targeted ads) has driven downloads and subscriptions, with further features like workout logging and community tools planned.
