A WooCommerce Case Study
Seattle web studio Kool Kat Web Designs rebuilt photographer Jon Cornforth’s dated CornforthImages.com to better showcase his wilderness photography and sell prints online. Jon wanted a WordPress-based site (he already used a WordPress blog) with WooCommerce-powered sales, but the project had unique challenges: varied image orientations and sizes, gallery-style category layouts, in-context previewing of prints, and handling size/framing variations in the cart rather than on the product page.
The team solved this by extending WooCommerce with custom templates, hooks and filters, using add_image_size to produce tall thumbnails, and laying out galleries with the jQuery Isotope plugin to fit images like puzzle pieces. They added a custom product-image.php for environment previews, hid variation controls on product pages and implemented a custom variable.php plus JavaScript and cart-update logic to surface size/frame choices in the cart. The result is a visually compelling site that showcases Cornforth’s work and provides a smooth, orientation-aware purchasing experience for prints.
