African Cartel - Customer Case Study

African Cartel is an online project that showcases and sells work by African artists. Initially built on the Listings theme with Cart66 and other e-commerce plugins, the site ran into limitations — restricted product counts, awkward product-to-artist linking, heavy shipping tables, and a content/theme mismatch that hid custom “Artist” data when changing themes.

The team migrated to WooCommerce and the Argentum theme, preserved the Artists custom post type with a small plugin, and used LESS and custom templates for a cleaner, responsive design. They also developed or improved extensions (CSV importer, Table Rate Shipping v2, Product-to-Media Link) to streamline product import, shipping rules, and linking art to listings. The result: a smoother admin experience, faster shipping configuration, stronger integration between artists and products, and nearly tripled the number of products offered with plans to add local payment options.
