Bermuda Electric Light Company Ltd. (BELCO) is the island chain’s century-old utility tasked with delivering reliable power to 65,500 residents and as many as 465,000 annual visitors. Its remote Atlantic location, growing demand from island development, and the need to operate self-sufficiently created challenges for integrating new equipment and meeting the ambitious goal of becoming the first organization in Bermuda to achieve ISO 14001:2004 certification.

BELCO implemented Wonderware System Platform, InTouch HMI, Historian and IntelaTrac to unify legacy and new systems, simplify independent upgrades, and capture the operational data needed for auditing. The solution provided consistent electricity across generation, transmission and 34 substations, enabled ISO 14001:2004 certification, and established a scalable foundation for BELCO’s integrated resources plan through 2025 and beyond.
