A Wonderware Case Study
Pima County’s Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department operates the Tres Rios facility and a network of plants, lift stations and 3,500 miles of sewer to manage about 60 million gallons a day for roughly one million residents. The county faced operational complexity from widely distributed assets, an aging workforce with critical institutional knowledge at risk, and the need for faster, clearer alarm response and situational awareness to keep the system running reliably and compliantly.
Pima County implemented a Wonderware-based SCADA and mobile workforce solution—System Platform, InTouch, Historian and IntelaTrac—to create a unified plant model, improve situational awareness, capture veteran knowledge and enable data-driven decision making. The upgrade doubled plant capacity (about a 50% increase in operational efficiency), cut energy use by 10%, maintained current staffing levels, captured institutional knowledge for training, and produced financial wins including a $352,000 utility rebate and identified annual energy savings opportunities.
