Case Study: The Guidance Center achieves successful workforce transitions with Wonderlic

A Wonderlic Case Study

The Guidance Center - Customer Case Study

The Guidance Center is a state-funded, not-for-profit in New Rochelle, NY, that provides counseling, job placement and support to about 300 people a year recovering from drug and alcohol dependency. Counselors faced the challenge of guiding clients with widely varying skills and goals—some seeking new careers, others re-entering previous fields—without a clear baseline to know whether clients should pursue education, refresher courses, GEDs, or enter the workforce directly.

To address this, the Center administers the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (WBST) as an initial assessment of basic math and English. The WBST gives counselors an objective starting point for career and education planning, helps prevent placements likely to fail, boosts client confidence, and improves the chances of a successful, sober transition back into work and daily life.
