Tecumseh Public Schools - Customer Case Study

Tecumseh Public Schools, a district of one high school, one middle school and four elementary schools serving about 3,100 students and 270 employees, faced costly hiring mistakes—one short-lived teacher hire cost an estimated $40,000 in salary, legal fees and lost instructional time. HR Manager Donna Elsner wanted a more reliable, less biased way to predict candidate fit than the traditional resume-and-interview approach, and needed to reduce the time staff spent screening large applicant pools.

Donna implemented a suite of Wonderlic assessments for five key roles, using an online prescreen to filter unqualified applicants, a Quicktest cognitive screener, role-specific personality/reliability measures, and a final Wonderlic Personnel Test to predict job success. The system streamlined hiring, saved hours of resume review, clarified choices between finalists (including a successful Accounting Coordinator hire), reduced misfit employees, and let supervisors refocus on curriculum and student achievement.
