SUBWAY Restaurants, the world’s largest submarine sandwich franchise with over 18,000 locations, faced the challenge of efficiently screening thousands of franchise applicants each year to ensure new owners were qualified and prepared to succeed in intensive training and operations.
To tighten its pre-qualification process, SUBWAY added the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test alongside interviews and credit checks. The assessment improved the caliber of candidates who advanced, showed a strong correlation with training-class performance, and helped the team more quickly identify applicants most likely to succeed — prompting consideration of the test for use in non-English markets.
