A Wonderlic Case Study
Northwest Lineman College (NLC), founded in 1993 and the largest electrical lineman training school in the U.S., trains over 3,000 students a year across campuses in California, Idaho and Texas. By 2008 the school faced costly hiring mistakes that harmed student satisfaction and morale and cost the organization more than $78,000 that year, prompting a rethink of its traditional ad-interview-hire approach.
In 2008 NLC adopted Wonderlic’s suite of online pre-employment assessments—prescreening, cognitive (WPT-Quicktest), personality and productivity/integrity measures—and now brings top scorers in for a two-week paid trial instead of routine interviews. The new process cut turnover by 35%, saved tens of thousands in recruiting costs, contributed to significant company growth (from $5M to $10M) and produced more satisfied, better-fitting employees.
