Case Study: National Pen Company achieves faster, more confident hiring by identifying sales-ready candidates with Wonderlic

A Wonderlic Case Study

Preview of the National Pen Company Case Study

National Pen Company - Customer Case Study

National Pen Company, founded in 1966, is a major direct-selling specialty firm that produces highly decorated pens and promotional products for the mail-order market, serving over a million active customers with low minimum quantities. Their hiring challenge was consistently identifying candidates who have the aptitude and attitude to succeed in sales.

To solve this, talent manager Marilyn McKelvey implemented the Wonderlic Interactive Skills Test (WISE) as an online prescreen for sales candidates. The test provides measurable insight into sales-related skills (client data collection, selling suggestions, closing) so applicants below the benchmark aren’t interviewed, saving time; scores are shared with candidates and used to focus training. As a result, vacancies are filled faster, hiring confidence has improved, and the tool is being adopted across other company facilities.
