Literacy Lubbock, a United Way partner in Lubbock, Texas, provides free adult education—including GED prep, ESL, literacy tutoring and dyslexia support—to about 650 students a year with more than 100 volunteer instructors. Many adult learners lacked the English and math skills needed for the GED, and the agency’s previous multi-day in-class testing process was time-consuming and led some students to drop out before placement.

After implementing Wonderlic’s GAIN assessment, intake testing is completed in 90 minutes during enrollment, enabling immediate, accurate class placement and targeted material allocation. In the first seven months they tested about 100 students, saved over $9,400 on GED study books, improved class sizes and attendance, and accelerated students’ progress toward earning their GED.
