Lehman’s, a specialty retailer founded in 1995 that supplies non-electric goods to Amish and rural customers, operates two Ohio stores plus catalog and online sales with nearly 100 employees. Hiring in these communities presents unique screening challenges—applicants’ cultural backgrounds can influence test responses and make it harder to assess job-related skills and fit.
To address this, HR Director Nancy Menotti uses the Hay Aptitude Test Battery and the Wonderlic Personnel Test to prescreen and benchmark candidates’ analytical, learning and problem‑solving abilities. The tests give consistent comparison against incumbents and help shape interviews and hiring decisions—used as a valuable guide rather than a final verdict, they have improved Lehman’s ability to identify candidates who align with specific roles.
