Extendicare Health Services, a leading long-term care provider with 146 U.S. and 80 Canadian facilities and more than 18,000 U.S. employees, faced significant hiring and retention challenges—processing over 15,000 applicants a year while coping with high turnover in key roles (Administrator turnover at 41%, Director of Nursing turnover at 63%).
To address this, Extendicare implemented a battery of Wonderlic assessments (WPT, CPP, PCI and later the MPA) for executive, management, director and sales roles and used results for both hiring and employee development. The assessments improved fit and retention: Administrator turnover fell to 26% and Director of Nursing turnover to 33%, while the CPP and MPA helped predict retention and guide development and compatibility decisions.
