Case Study: Northwest Community Hospital boosts Medicare AWV completions and reimbursement with Wolters Kluwer ELM Solutions

Increased Medicare annual wellness visits and Northwest Community Hospital

Northwest Community Hospital, a 396-bed short term acute care hospital in Arlington Heights, IL, wanted to increase Medicare annual wellness visit completions without adding staff burden. The hospital also aimed to improve reimbursement by encouraging more patients to schedule and complete AWVs. Wolters Kluwer ELM Solutions provided EmmiPrevent for Medicare Annual Wellness Visits to help address this challenge.

Wolters Kluwer ELM Solutions used automated voice response calls that educated patients about AWVs, collected responses, and provided scheduling information while also generating follow-up lists for staff. Among 2,916 Medicare patients, 57% were reached by Emmi and 29% of those reached completed an AWV versus 11% among those not reached. The program prompted an additional 296 AWV completions and generated an estimated $32,856 in additional reimbursement, using an average reimbursement of $111 per visit.
