Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center partnered with Wolters Kluwer ELM Solutions to help address a common challenge for first-time colonoscopy patients: anxiety, uncertainty, and limited understanding of what to expect before, during, and after the procedure. The organization wanted a better way to educate patients and improve their experience ahead of the exam.

Wolters Kluwer ELM Solutions implemented the Emmi® interactive, web-based colonoscopy program alongside the standard printed prep packet. In a randomized study, patients who viewed Emmi showed decreased anxiety, required less sedation medication, and had shorter procedure times than those who received only printed materials. The findings suggested improved patient knowledge and comfort, along with potential efficiency gains and lower costs for Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
