SWAYAM is the Government of India’s national MOOC platform built to deliver free, high-quality learning across school, undergraduate, postgraduate and vocational levels. Faced with the unprecedented challenge of hosting 2,000+ courses and 80,000 hours of content for up to 30 million learners — including the capacity to handle 1 million concurrent logins, multi-lingual support and mobile access — the government partnered with Microsoft for strategic delivery and WizIQ to design and implement the technical platform.

Microsoft Azure and the WizIQ learning delivery platform were combined in a three‑phase rollout that scaled from a 50k‑student pilot to a national service designed to support 30M learners and 2,000 courses. The solution delivered course-building tools, cloud content library, mobile apps, grading and certification, forums and analytics; as a result SWAYAM is consolidating India’s education bodies, lowering delivery costs, enabling paperless, mobile-first learning and expanding access and employability nationwide.
