Adeunis updates smart building sensors over several hundred meters with Witekio

Adeunis, an expert in IoT devices for smart buildings, faced the challenge of remotely updating the firmware on hundreds of battery-powered sensors using protocols like LoRa and Sigfox, which were not originally designed for such updates. They required a solution that would extend the update range with a 'hop' mechanism, maintain strict power consumption limits to preserve battery life, and ensure strong security, all while providing a user-friendly interface for technicians. They partnered with embedded software expert Witekio to develop this global firmware update system.

Witekio designed and integrated a complete firmware update system, developing a custom radio protocol and a secure network tree mechanism to enable long-range, multi-hop updates. They created a bootloader with FreeRTOS to manage power efficiently and built a user-friendly Ionic web application for technicians to visualize and deploy updates. The solution allowed Adeunis to automatically update sensors from several hundred meters away, successfully limiting the impact on battery lifetime to less than 10% over 10 years while significantly reducing the risk of system attacks through a deep cryptography layer.
