How Resilient Coders Uses Soapbox to Create Video Cover Letters and Hack the Opportunity Gap

Resilient Coders, founded by David Delmar, trains young people from traditionally underserved Boston communities in a 16‑week immersive bootcamp focused on HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Despite strong technical outcomes, graduates were routinely overlooked due to persistent recruiter bias—an obstacle the organization set out to overcome.

Resilient Coders made Soapbox’s split‑screen video recorder a required part of the curriculum, so students can talk through projects while showing their code, shifting attention from identity to demonstrable work. The videos are featured on student profiles and in newsletters, have prompted employer inquiries (for example, about student Farrah’s game), and have boosted graduates’ visibility and hiring opportunities.
