Worldwide Forwarding Network, founded by Peter Vaughan in 1994, began as a low‑overhead startup run from his home. The company’s main challenge was proving credibility and managing cash flow while fitting seamlessly into clients’ operations as an outsourced shipping department, all without expanding overheads or losing service quality.
The solution was early adoption of electronic processing—email, then freight software and CargoWise’s ediEnterprise—to automate quotes through delivery, accounting and tracking; by 1997 most transactions were electronic. That tech‑driven approach enabled measured expansion (offices in Melbourne and Brisbane, diversification into customs brokerage), a strategic partnership with Dimerco for global reach, and organic growth to three offices, 34 staff and access to a 145‑office international network while maintaining strong customer support.
