Freewill accelerates development with 19 mock APIs using WireMock

FreeWill, the largest U.S. provider of online estate planning tools, needed to increase end-to-end test coverage for its financial APIs without causing issues for its partners. Their challenge was to mock these third-party APIs and to create discrete environments for parallel testing, as they were previously reliant on a single shared AWS Lambda endpoint.

WireMock implemented its WireMock Cloud platform to provide a mature solution for mocking FreeWill's 19 API dependencies. The solution enabled the creation of unique mock endpoints for each test environment, which resulted in fewer bugs escaping into production. Issues that previously took up to three pull requests to resolve were now fixed within a single PR, significantly accelerating development velocity and quality.
