Switchee, a company providing smart thermostats for social housing, faced the challenge of ensuring reliable connectivity for their devices. Many residents in affordable housing did not have Wi-Fi, making remote monitoring difficult. They partnered with the vendor Wireless Logic to find a cellular solution that was cost-effective and could provide strong signal coverage regardless of location.

Wireless Logic implemented a solution using a single non-steered roaming SIM from KPN, allowing each thermostat to connect to the strongest available network. This was managed through their SIMPro platform and secured with their NetPro private APN. The results for Switchee included a 15% reduction in fuel costs for residents. Furthermore, the data collected enabled landlords to proactively address issues like potential fuel poverty, overheating, and mould growth, improving tenant well-being and asset management.
