Case Study: Thames Water achieves smarter water metering and leak detection with Wipro's Fixed Network Integration

A Wipro Case Study

Preview of the Thames Water Case Study

Wipro helped Thames Water install 40,000 smart meters in London area in 6 months by building a secure and sustainable path for affordable water supply via a Fixed Network Integration solution

Thames Water, the UK's largest water utility, faced the challenge of an impending water shortage and a lack of accurate consumption data, with 65% of its customers unmetered. To improve water management and provide customers with greater control, it launched its Progressive Metering Program. Wipro was engaged to help build a secure and sustainable path for an affordable water supply through a Fixed Network Integration solution.

Wipro implemented its Fixed Network Integration (FNI) initiative, which involved the rapid installation of 40,000 smart meters to provide hourly data readings. This solution enabled Thames Water to move away from manual reads, accurately detect leaks, and provide customers with an online portal to monitor usage. The results included a 12% reduction in daily water consumption for users, the detection of leaks for 7% of customers, and a significant improvement in data for forecasting. Wipro's delivery was a key milestone for the utility's strategic smart meting rollout.
