How Wipro Helped The Highlands Overcome Connectivity and Technological Challenges During COVID-19 Quarantine

The Highland Council in Scotland faced major connectivity and technology challenges during COVID-19 lockdown, as its rural area needed to support remote work, online learning, and community services with limited existing infrastructure. Wipro partnered with the Council to strengthen its ICT foundation and help keep essential services running across the Highlands.

Wipro implemented a secure remote working solution with new servers, Always On VPN, Microsoft Teams, and expanded network capacity, while also supporting public Wi‑Fi, cloud communications, and connected devices for staff and students. The results were significant: home connections scaled from 500 to 5,000 per day in 10 days, about 200 4G devices were distributed, 22,000 Chromebooks had already been provided to students, and the Council helped deliver £66 million in business grants while supporting 2,000 helpline callers.
