Enabling Smart Grid Analytics and an Asset Health Center for a Leading Public Utility

Leading Digital Utility Company, a public-service electric and water utility serving more than 1 million customers in the Middle East, faced a major challenge after rolling out 2 million smart meters and sensors: its systems were not integrated, making it difficult to turn large volumes of smart grid data into actionable insights. The company wanted to use Wipro’s support to build an asset health center and smart grid analytics foundation to improve service reliability, reduce downtime, and optimize maintenance spending.

Wipro designed and implemented an analytical architecture using Cloudera Hadoop, with the utility’s existing SAP HANA and Tableau investments, and recommended IPS Energy’s APM suite to support asset performance management. The solution integrated multiple data sources into a governed data lake and enabled faster use-case delivery for monitoring, planning, and reliability analytics. As a result, the utility expects electricity network losses of 3.3% to decline, improved decision-making through dashboards and reports, reduced service disruptions, and raised customer satisfaction from 90% to the mid-90s.
