A Wingtra Case Study
The University of Geneva, led by Assistant Professor Joël Ruch and his research team, studies divergent plate boundaries and volcanic activity in places like Iceland and Ethiopia. Their challenge was to collect detailed geological data across large, hard-to-access lava fields more quickly and safely than by walking for days, using a tool that could bridge the gap between satellite imagery and ground surveying. They used WingtraOne, Wingtra’s VTOL fixed-wing drone, to support their research.
Wingtra helped the University of Geneva complete around 80 missions over the past two years, enabling efficient mapping of volcanic zones and the collection of higher-resolution geological data. With WingtraOne, the team could safely survey large areas on difficult terrain and improve the quality of their findings with complementary data at a scale between satellite and field measurements.
