Redefining the possible, surveying Africa’s largest uranium mine with WingtraOne drone

Strydom & Associates, a surveying firm working at Namibia’s Husab uranium mine, faced a high-pressure year-end audit deadline and challenging desert conditions while needing accurate volumetric measurements over a 1,500 ha open-pit site. The team needed a fast, reliable way to map a very large area without sacrificing precision, and they used WingtraOne, Wingtra’s VTOL mapping drone, to do it.

Wingtra provided the WingtraOne UAV with a full-frame Sony RX1RII camera and WingtraPilot flight planning software, enabling the team to complete four flights and capture 1,500 geo-referenced RGB images in just 2.5 hours. The resulting high-resolution aerial data was processed into detailed 3D models and DEMs, helping Strydom & Associates finish their audit survey on time with high accuracy, even in harsh wind and desert conditions.
