Pixmap, a Swiss drone services specialist, needed a way to monitor erosion and rock-fall risk along the Gotthard Pass, a high-alpine roadway with steep terrain, strong winds, limited takeoff/landing areas, and no practical way to place ground control points at the highest elevations. They used WingtraOne, Wingtra’s VTOL mapping drone, for the photogrammetry mission.

Wingtra’s WingtraOne, combined with terrain following and automated flight planning, enabled Pixmap to safely capture high-quality aerial imagery across 48 hectares in just one day of flying. The team collected 460 images at 6 cm resolution and produced a 3D model with about 6 cm accuracy, giving engineers a repeatable baseline to compare annually and spot changes that could signal future rock falls.
