Norwegian government saves time and money on road surveys with VTOL drone data [ROI study]

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Norway’s national road authority, needed a faster and more accurate way to survey road construction projects across a long network, especially in areas with tight takeoff/landing space, large survey areas, high accuracy requirements, and steady wind. They turned to Wingtra and its WingtraOne VTOL mapping drone to improve road monitoring, infrastructure maintenance, and construction surveying.

With WingtraOne and its Sony RX1R II camera plus PPK, the administration can capture high-accuracy road survey data in about an hour for a 5 km stretch instead of about five days with traditional methods, while also reducing costs versus multirotor and helicopter surveys. Wingtra says the drone delivers around 2 cm absolute accuracy, supports frequent corridor mapping and orthophotos, and helps reconcile contractor work, track volumes of earth moved, and update the national road database more efficiently.
