Mapping of One of Europe’s Largest Mines and Delivering Final Data in 10 Days

Vekom Geo Technical Associate, a Serbian geospatial hardware and software distributor, was tasked with updating terrain data for RTB, one of Europe’s largest copper mining and smelting complexes in Bor, Serbia. The mine’s steep, windy, gravelly terrain made conventional ground surveying difficult and made fixed-wing or multicopter drone operations risky and inefficient, so Vekom Geo turned to Wingtra and its VTOL WingtraOne drone.

Using the WingtraOne with a Sony RX1RII 42 MP camera, Vekom Geo mapped all four mine pits, capturing 5,500 photos and delivering precise orthophotos and survey data in just 10 days. Wingtra helped the team work about 30 times faster in the field than classical methods and around five times faster in final delivery, while also reducing the need for ground control and improving safety on rough terrain.
