Kenya Red Cross maps 76 km² of refugee settlements in 37 days with Wingtra

The Kenya Red Cross, as part of its research initiatives, partnered with UNHCR and OpenStreetMap to manage large refugee settlements in Northern Kenya. Their challenge was to conduct high-resolution surveys of approximately 76 km² of these settlements to support informed development decisions for infrastructure and facilities. To meet this need, they utilized the WingtraOne GEN II drone from vendor Wingtra.

The Wingtra solution provided a safe and efficient method for data collection, even in the hot and windy conditions of Northern Kenya. Over a 37-day mission, the WingtraOne GEN II gathered top-quality data that was used to generate maps and machine learning models. This data is helping stakeholders make critical decisions about infrastructure development, directly impacting the wellbeing of the hundreds of thousands of people living in the settlements.
